Smart Search
Shoppers ask in their own words; the search understands the question.
Try it, step by step
A shopper who types a sentence, and one who doesn't know what to type
Illustrative store and products. The screens, wording and behaviour are the module's own.
What it does
Product finder on category pages: shoppers who don't know what to pick answer two or three questions and get up to three products, each with a reason taken from the product's own attributes.
Shopper insights: once a month, the searches that found nothing and the questions your pages could not answer, grouped into a short list of fixes, in your Magento admin and by email.
A shopper types "best non-stick frying pan under $50" and the search reads it as an intent — product terms, a price ceiling, a category — instead of matching words.
Candidates come from your catalogue, then are re-ranked against what the shopper meant, so a bike rack stops appearing under "bicycle".
Suggests refinements they can tap, written in your store's language whatever language they typed in.
Every AI step falls back to ordinary keyword search on its own. If the allowance runs out or the model is slow, shoppers still get results and never see an error.
How it works
-
1
Your catalogue is synced
Product names, attributes, categories, prices and stock are sent to the Devexa platform and kept up to date as you edit products. Search answers from that copy, fast, without loading your Magento server.
-
2
Short queries stay instant
One or two words ('dozator', 'tigaie 28') are answered by keyword ranking in milliseconds, with the product whose name starts with the word ranked above accessories that merely mention it.
-
3
Sentences are read as intent
A sentence ('cea mai bună tigaie sub 200 lei') is read for the product, the budget and the qualifier. The budget becomes a real price filter; the rest re-ranks the candidates, so a bike rack stops appearing under 'bicycle'.
-
4
Unsure shoppers get guided
On the categories you choose, the product finder asks two or three questions and recommends up to three products. Each reason cites the product's own attributes, and a pick that can't be justified is left out.
-
5
You see what shoppers could not find
Searches with no results, sentences the AI had nothing to answer, and product questions your pages couldn't answer are grouped monthly into actions: add a synonym, fill an attribute, stock a product, add information to a page.
What you need
- Magento 2.4.4 or later with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch (the Magento default)
- Or Medusa v2, Shopify or WooCommerce 7.0+, with the Devexa connector
- Magento: Hyvä or Luma theme; the search box replaces the theme's header search automatically
- Magento: Cron running (catalogue changes are sent every five minutes)
- A Devexa plan that includes Smart Search
Set it up
- 1 Install the modules with Composer (your dashboard shows the commands with your key already in them), then run setup:upgrade.
- 2 Paste your licence key under Stores › Configuration › Devexa › License & Platform.
- 3 Enable Smart Search and conversational search under Stores › Configuration › Devexa › Smart Search, then press Sync catalogue.
- 4 Optional: turn on the Product Finder and list the categories where shoppers most need advice.
- 5 Open Devexa AI › Shopper insights after a week or two of traffic to see what to fix first.

Questions merchants ask
Does it replace Elasticsuite or Algolia?
It doesn't have to. Keyword search keeps working as it does today; Smart Search takes over the dropdown and reads long sentences as intent. If you already run another search vendor, the finder and the insights report still work on their own.
What happens when the AI allowance runs out?
Search falls back to plain keyword ranking. Shoppers still get results and never see an error. Your admin shows the allowance and warns you at 80% and 95%.
Will the product finder invent reasons?
No. It may only use the attributes, price and description your products actually have, and every reason must cite them. If nothing fits the shopper's answers, it says so instead of padding the list.
How does the insights report count shoppers?
The AI only groups and names. Every count is added up from the actual searches and questions behind each item, and you can open each one to read exactly what shoppers typed.
Does it slow my store down?
No. The dropdown is served by the Devexa platform directly from the shopper's browser, so your Magento server doesn't handle those requests at all.
